/// The council confirmed the families were being “greeted” at the centre but were unable to confirm whether they represented the first Syrian refugees to arrive on Teesside. ///

/// A Redcar and Cleveland spokesman said: “The refugees were attending a welcome event, which included an introduction to the area, before being taken to their homes.” ///

Standard high-handed councillor behaviour. Happy to have their moment in the spotlight to further their climb up the greasy pole at the expense of their voters.
By the time the next election comes around they'll have installed a block vote and locals can whistle for services on a par with those delivered on a plate to alien invaders.
Not many of them will pitch up in Witney. Nor any of the delightful villages where the local architects of this scheme, no doubt, reside.

Good question.
Have they been screened for TB and security checked?
Contact Redcar and Cleveland Council, am sure they'll tell you.
^I'm not.
