I have just downloaded Windows 10 and instead of the Internet Explorer icon on the bottom task bar I have a Microsoft Edge icon which tells me it will help to browse the web. The first thing I find is that I have lost all my Favourites. Where are ??

Windows 10 comes with both Internet Explorer and Edge. If you really want to use Internet Explorer (WHY? WHY? WHY? It's totally pathetic!), follow the instructions here:
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/open-internet-explorer-in-windows-10

However it makes far more sense to import your bookmarks (or 'favorites', as Microsoft insists upon calling them, with that horrid US spelling) into Edge:
http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/how-import-internet-favorites-windows-10s-microsoft-edge-other-browsers

It would probably make even more sense to use a non-Microsoft browser (such as Firefox or Chrome) altogether - but that's another story ;-)

If you want to use internet explorer you can find in “All Apps” “Windows Accessories”
Right click it and select “Pin to Start” you can then drag it to desktop if you want. Favourites may or may not be there I’ve known both it’s one of those things you should really backup before upgrading
Don't push the 7 classic shell on to people. The W10 start up menu works just fine and takes very little getting used to.
