His description of that really is my idea of a holiday from hell!!
Don't worry shoota - I am seriously picky about the company I keep on holiday ... and when not on holiday come to that!

It takes all sorts of course.

My description was simply to allay the commonly held fear that because you are on a ship you are somehow all crammed together, when nothing could be further from the truth.
andy-hughes, I've been on many ships. We don't do package holidays of any description.

I have been on two cruises, one in the 70s & the other the 80s.

The food was excellent, evening entertainment ok-ish, but hated the black tie dress for dinner. Would have preferred shorts & T-shirt.

We were invited to dine with the captain one night, and that was the most boring night of the cruise.

I can't speak for cruises in the past - but all the cruises I have been on have had a number of 'black tie' nights, but they are only in the main restaurants - passengers who prefer not to wear evening dress have a variety of other restaurants and cafes to choose from, where no dress code is in operation.
