This was actually on the news in the US and one of the commentators made the point that in the event of some disaster happening to the vessel, a name like Boaty Boatface would sound too disrespectful to the people lost.

That's an opinion not a point. I think most folk would be more concerned about the folk on the vessel and not give a darn about it's name.
