Can anyone tell me if there are engineering works going on on the Bakerloo line near Paddington. I'm getting conflicting messages from Transport for London's website. I'm travelling there on Wednesday.

Cloverjo - in answer to your last question - yes, you can.

All looks to be fine. No planned works.

Actually,I take that back. It says Paddington station is closed, which I think should probably be just the weekends.
it's not stopping there till August 2
Nope. It's definitely closed. Making way for Crossrail.
yep, the escalators down to the bakerloo line were last refurbished in about 1991 so it's time they were done again - so the bakerloo platforms are shut until the summer. you'll need to change elsewhere from the bakerloo to the circle/hammersmith lines; or, go central line to lancaster gate and it's a short walk from there.
Bakerloo Line trains aren't stopping at Paddington. Apart from that, everything's normal.

Thanks, everyone. Why do TfL say there are no engineering works going on, then? Very confusing.
I assume I can get off the overland train at Paddington from the South West and go to the Edgware Road tube station for the Bakerloo line?

Oops, diddlydo. Sorry.

you can but it's a bit of a hike - where's your ultimate destination?
there aren't engineering works on the Bakerloo line, it's the station improvements (the escalators) and providing access to the Elizabeth line that are causing the closure. The Bakerloo line is fine and trains are going through on it, just not stopping. The service will be restored in time for carnival.

Mushroom, my destination is the Old Vic theatre. The line from Paddington to Waterloo would have been the easiest way, but OH has written down another route for me where I change lines and eventually get off at Southwark.
Question Author
Thanks for all answers.
Waterloo's closer; the theatre's only a couple of humdred yards from the Jubilee line exit. Go from Paddington to Baker St on the Hammersmith & City or Circle lines, then change on to the Jubilee line (more frequent than the Bakerloo) and go to Waterloo. Up the escalators and turn right after you get onto the street.
oh, just seen you're there already...

Thanks, jno. I've only just seen your reply, and that was the way I went, except I got out at Southwark instead of Waterloo, as the station is smaller so less chance of getting lost.
I was surprised at how easy I found it. I'd never been to London on my own before and was a bit nervous.
Hope you enjoyed the show! (Was it the Pinter?)
Question Author
Yes it was The Caretaker by Pinter. It was excellent. Thank you.
