When I used to work up in Town, the daily papers were available from about 21:20 each evening, in stalls outside Kings Cross ( also in Piccadilly Circus ) Personally, I would buy a sandwich or two the day before... its what I do when I have to catch a very early train.

Starbucks and Costa, at St Pancras International, are both open 24 hours.

You might be able to get a newspaper at one of the shops on the main road outside the station. (There's a 24-hour Costcutter not far along to the left).

thanks for both replys, will be staying overnight in a hotel so no option to pre buy and keep in a fridge. but thanks for the info.
Ref your sandwich. When I was in that situation, I used to make the sandwich at home and then stick it in the freezer. It would have defrosted nicely by the time I wanted to eat it, but I did tend to stick to things that didn't go off easily, like cheddar cheese and pickle. Make sure you wrap it extremely tightly in cling film.
As for the newspaper, buy one the day before of a type you don't normally read. You may get most of the same news, but you will get a completely different slant. Or buy and save Private Eye or The Week.
re newspaper, pick up monday's evening standard as you arrive in London (it's free).
^^^ Tuesday's (free) Metro newspaper might already be in the stands at St Pancras by that time.
I made sandwiches for my friend's son 21st many years ago and it was maybe the first I catered for a large amount. Not knowing what to do I put them into the freezer - and that night a large of people nearly lost their teeth biting on the iced sandwiches. I hadn't a clue as to defrosting.
