Exactly what is it that I (and Talbot, although, obviously I can’t speak for him) want?
My comments were regarding the fact that these people want (and get) things both ways.
21st century progress but 15th century ideology.

In all honesty I couldn’t give a toss what happens to these people in their own countries, and yes, the western world has interfered far too much. But I do care about the impact the mass influx of muslims into non-muslim countries has had.
andy-hughes, //Are we being just a tad hypocritical in assuming that our way is the right way and the only way, and everyone else must live as we do? //

When it comes to another culture’s acceptance of wife beating, our way is the right way. No assuming necessary.

This is where I have an issue.

Everything I understand and believe about the correct way to treat people is that violence is wrong.

But that thinking is entirely the result of my upbringing and culture - what is to say that another culture, who bring up their people to believe that such things are not wrong, have their own right to live the way they choose, without having our ways forced upon them?

andy-hughes, philosophical arguments don't help battered women. There are indisputable rights and wrongs in this world and bashing women is one of the wrongs.

So if Islam says homosexuality is a sin and must be punished it is OK for the punishment to be thrown from a high building and if still alive stoned. That is their culture so it must be right in their own country?????
Naomi and retrocop - I am not for one moment suggesting that such behaviour is acceptable - but that is based on our cultural attitudes, and what we are brought up to believe is acceptable.

The point I am making is that not all other cultures think as we do - and even though it strikes at the very core of all we hold dear in terms of respect and protection, does that still give us the right to force our way of life on other people, simply because we possess the moral will, and military hardware ad forces to be able to do so?
