and as usual we fall for it

"the Government claims is the "largest resettlement programme in the world" for children from the Middle East and north Africa."

...oh great...so its not just syrian refugees...anything to make sure this countrys identity is trashed one way or another, obviously we havent got enough north africans piling in here

And how long before these children miraculously remember they have parents who according to human rights laws means these parents will be given the right to stay in UK ? or parents who suddenly remember they have kids and say that theyre here and should be with them ?

Mikey, tens of thousands - and all so easy.
I didn't say it was easy Naomi, but if this problem is taken on across Europe, it shouldn't be impossible to rescue these poor kids.....doing nothing is just not acceptable.
Mikey, how many do you want to 'rescue'? There are millions of them from all across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. As much as we'd like to, we can't cure the ills of the world. We have to be realistic.

/// Maybe some of them could be reunited with relatives at a later date.///

I'm sure they will be, most likely in the UK and at our expense, because it's their 'ooman rites innit?
Mikey
You always say we need to build more affordable housing. What do we do just open another several boxes of billion pounds? What money that should be used to build more houses and hospital goes to Europe by the millions every day as well as millions in Overseas development. We cannot afford to look after our own if we give a lot of our debt to other countries.
I don't think we have enough skilled brickies, chippies, sparks to do much building on the industrial scale that would be required. Where are all these "out of work teachers?" Pray tell me.
Usual Labour doctrine. Spend Spend Spend and put this country deeper in debt to the benefit of other countries and the detrement of our own!!
“.......we need to build more homes, for more people to rent at affordable prices....call them Council Housing if you like. It would provide much needed housing, give employment to our out-of-work construction workers, and provide for a good, solid housing infrastructure for the future.

Its what happened post-WW2 and it can happen again. It just needs political will.”

And money, Mikey, in true Socialist fashion you’ve forgotten the money. Which will come from er…er…??? “Giving employment” to out-of-work construction workers means paying them – with money. Buying bricks and mortar to build houses requires – money.

As naomi has pointed out, the children in Syria are just a small number of the millions across the world that live in danger, squalor and poverty. That’s life. Their parents choose to bring them into a dangerous, squalid, poverty stricken environment (those places did not degenerate from Utopia to cesspit in the nine months between conception and birth). The best thing they can do to ease the suffering of their children is to lay off knocking out so many of them for a while until their nations become fit for human habitation. This would also help with the huge over population time bomb that threatens the world to a far greater degree than so-called Global Warming ever will. These dispossessed children are an early symptom of that threat and it is not up to European nations to sort it out even if they could (which they cannot, without placing the wellbeing of those already here in great jeopardy).

Oh you are so rude.
Pot, kettle black.
Amusing to read all the Brexitters using this as a reason to leave, when this has nowt to do with the EU - It is a UN initiative.

// The new scheme, advised by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), will focus more on children defined as ‘at risk’.
‘We have engaged with a number of NGOs, including the UNHCR on the best way to provide protection to refugee children and ensure their welfare and safety remain at the heart of every decision made.’
Refugee Council Chief Executive Maurice Wren said: ‘This announcement is life changing, if not life saving news for the small group of children and their families who will benefit. //
"How do we know that it is Answerprancer's heritage, he could also be a guest in our once great country".

Correct, I'm Scottish.
“Amusing to read all the Brexitters using this as a reason to leave, when this has nowt to do with the EU - It is a UN initiative.”

I am perhaps among the most rabid (but perhaps a little more measured than most) “Brexiters” here on AB. However, NJ at 18:35 yesterday answering this same question:

“However, leaving the EU will not cure this utter lunacy”

So not quite ALL the Brexiters, Gromit, not quite all. I appreciate this particular scheme has nothing to do with the EU. However I can understand the confusion because it exhibits all the characteristics of the hare-brained ideas that spew out of that ludicrously inept organisation.
Baz, they way to help the country's with vast populations is birth control, until then it will continue.
