Camping In Derbyshire.

My wife and I are looking for a small friendly campsite in a very rural setting in Derbyshire (possibly Peak District). We prefer sites with less than 50 pitches, good facilities and optional electric hook-ups. There should be lots of good walking close by and great food locally. We are not members of camping and caravan clubs etc. Suggestions will be gratefully received.

Can highly recommend Fieldhead Campsite in Edale. Not so sure about electrical hook ups - but they have a fridge you can use, and a plug for a hairdryer! Showers were hot and clean. The campsite is also based in the information centre, so you can go in and chat about what kind of walk you want, and they'll be able to help.

Great friendly staff on the campsite - two great pubs within 0.2miles of the site, and a pop up pizza tent over by one of the pubs that does the best stone baked pizzas you've ever tasted made fresh to order. Also a good breakfast cafe within a 2 minute walk.

Excellent walking, whether that's KinderScout, or popping over to Castleton. And if the weather isn't great, go down into one of the many caves over by Castleton. We went over at Easter, and we'll be heading back later in the year!

Thanks to the three of you for taking the time to give your input. I'm not looking for home from home, the fridge is critical for storing a medication I need four times a day,hence the hook-up. We prefer non club sites and we like personal recommendation as opposed to sites like ukcampsites.

65 pitches is slightly outside your 50 limit, but it's been in the same family for 3 generations. when i first went there in the 1970s you shared the field with their sheep, it's a bit more exclusively geared to the tourist now. they even have an adults-only area if you prefer not to be with the kids. the tourist sites of Edale and castleton are a short drive away (or can be reached by bus or train) and the walking is fantastic. just 10mn from the camp is the cheshire cheese inn, whose bar meals are highly recommended.
