Does anyone know what kind of ships pirates tended to use? I just need a name - frigate, clipper, whatever.

I know this soundsv ague and general - I just need a two-syllable ship type for a song and I don't want to be way out. Thanks

The commonest pirate ships were, apparently, sloops or brigantines. Sadly, neither has two syllables. How about 'galleon'? Who'll know whether pirates used these or not?

Hi QuizM, hoped you'd come to my aid. I guess I could squeeze 'galleon' into two syllables! Thanks
Schooner? Frigate? See here

It was a frigate.

In fact, any ship that they could steal or capture.
Hello, Pythia. Personally, I do say 'galleon' with two syllables...gal...yin. I know some will claim there is a teensy-weensy 'e' sound in there, but such schwas are easily elided out of words, especially in song. Cheers
TThe Pirates of Penzance have a schooner. They also drink sherry, tho I'm not sure if Gilbert bothers to make the connection...
