Our TV is stuck on BBC news channel. We are on Freesat and the remote will not change channels. We replaced batteries and turned everything off and back on to no avail. Any suggestions and /if necessary can we replace the remote but not sure how to tune in. Help. We are stuck with BBC news all night

If you have a digital camera, point the remote at the camera and press any button. You should see the lamp on the remote flickering on the camera viewfinder/screen if the remote is working. The camera sensor is sensitive to the light emitted by the remote control.
If there's no flickering the remote isn't working properly.
Make and model of the TV would help, but do you have any buttons on the TV set that you can operate manually?

Many thanks bhg have tried that and there is no flickering. If we get a replacement how easy is it to tune in.
twix the TV is a Sony Bravia and does have buttons but only for the aerial as the Humax box controls the channels
Is it a freesat box?

Or built in to the tv?

If you put the make and model number on here help will come.
There are 5 Humax boxes shown here

Is yours one of these?
I suspect that any Sony remote will operate your TV. We have two LG TVs and have swapped over the remotes.

Its a freesat box. Fox sat-hd from Humax and the remote is Humax RM 108
Hang on, I've just re-read your post. It's the remote for the Humax that you need to check if that's what you use for changing channels.

bhg We are only connected to Freesat so the Sony remote won't work.
doesn't the freesat box have buttons to control it manually
Question Author
Paul Yes it does!! lol But in any case we will have to replace the remote , so is it quite straightforward to tune in.
Many thanks to all for replies
You MIGHT find that your Sony remote will do basic operations on your Humax box (change channel etc). Our Panasonic remote has buttons for operating a VCR etc; the instruction manual for your Sony will tell you how to set it up to operate the Humax (if it's possible).
If you do decide to replace the remote, this OneForAll site enables you to get the correct one easily. Many come pre-programmed or use a simple code to "marry" them to the TV or other equipment.
