I am making a lamb casserole in my slow cooker, & had a pkt of dates delivered by mistake with my home shopping, would it be ok to add them?

Can't see why not, there are loads of recipes using lamb and dates. Google 'lamb and date recipes' and they'll give you some idea of what to add to make the most of it.
