Thanks Sqad. It seems a pity that a man with skill and experience should be denied the opportunity to work in his profession because of the lack of a few quid.
absolute hell
The GMC is run by Sqad cronies who are all jockeyng for honours and enhanced pensions - a vice Sqad is mercifully free of ....

Eu nationals with an EU degree can just walk in BUT must register with the GMC ( money involved of course ) -I cant recollect if they need to a language exam.

EU nationals ( inc GB ) with a not EU degree have to take a qualifying exam ( I think ) more money for GMC

non Eu nationals with an EU degree .... mmmm I think they have to take a qualifying exam

non EU nationals with a non EU degree need plab and language test

AND so..... well you did ask

suppose it is children's neuro .... what should the exam be ?
on paed neuro where he is going to practise ?
or a qualifying exam Sqad took in 1960 like which has all things - psych - gynae and so on in it ?

well it is a MB BS level exam .... so what aboiut his specialism ?
and what about the GMC bleating o yes we are here to protect the public ?

as you can seee it is a complete mess ..... well you did ask .....

Florida has a similar problem with cuban doctors and F has the highest concentration of non registered medical practitioners in the WORLD ( they are all cuban and not allowed to get onto the american health care band wagon )

There is also this system of keeping up skills - o just dont start me on that....
the idea is that a surgeon shouldnt operate on your without being er able to. So what happens to all the pen pushing doctors at the ministry ?
O they revalidate on their specialist subject before they had taken their white coat off - so if you look at the medical director of our local trust - he has validated as a tralsplant surgeon as he pushed his red pen thro all the invoices and building plans on his desk
It seems a pity that a man with skill and experience should be denied the opportunity to work in his profession because of the lack of a few quid.

More to the point it is a pity he was denied the opportunity to work in his profession as a result of a fatal road collision.!!
.... pen pushing away and he last did a transplant two or three years ago

so as you can see revalidation has its rather deep drawbacks.....

O andthe GMC in its wisdom has said that patient feedback is a integral and vital part of safe regulation ...
[ hey hold on that is not true - Shipman was v popular with his patients and would have walked it - No the GMC said it because the govt said " no knghthoods unless you enforce patient feedback so DO IT ! " and of course the GMC bent their back to the project .... ]

and so pathologists have to do patient feeback - you mean the doctors who ut up bodies have to do a patient feedback cycle ? yup !
who on for chrissakes ?
all their patients are dead arent they ?

so there you are Sandy -current medical regulation in a nut shell

Gracious PP
If only life was soooo easy as the way you explain it. Most enlightening. Thanks. :-)
