Can someone explain why Jehovahs do not celebrate in any form.

My granddaughter had a party and invited her classmate who's mum declined on the grounds that they were Jehovah Witnesses and did not celebrate such occasions.

My granddaughter was put out as this girl is among her best friends and was disappointed she could not come.

Sounds stupid to me, but what do I know!?!!!

Nailit, I too have gleaned what knowledge I have of JWs by having long conversations with them....never spoken to the same one twice, though I have seen them in the distance wallking very quickly. They seem to be nice people but several pages short of a watchtower.
Its no use my trying to explain on this site, as religion is a touchy subject The best thing for you to do to get answers is to go to the local Kingdom Hall. It took me 3 years to understand and I am still learning.

Goodlife, as long as you're happy, then so it be.

Religion is not for me as I cannot understand the concept of people praying to someone/something that does not exists. Some folks are too scared to make a move unless they've read their bible or whatever.

really, as long as that, once I realised god doesn't exist it took about 1 second to understand.
Sounds like Goodlife has finally realised we're a lost cause.
At least with the JW's you know what you're getting. They have an inane ability not to think for themselves, quoting snippets of the bible when they get flummoxed. Some of them would let their children die for the want of a blood transfusion. All of them must have masochistic tendencies to take the insults they get on the door step.
I think a bigger worry are the secretive christian sects that are practicing in our country. There are ones that will take all the members money, bed the women and whisk family members away, making it very difficult to contact them.
All of the brain washed members are petrified of dying!
The people most easily brainwashed is the atheists average individual. Such a one is already conditioned to accept opinions of others rather than to form strong convictions of his own. On the other hand, those hardest to brainwash are ones with unconventional ideas and strong convictions and who are not afraid of what others think.

Goodlife, I must confess to being an atheist and I don't think I am in the bracket of those easily brainwashed.
As I said before, those that want to believe and waste their life pandering to an invisible god, good luck to them.
Why do you/we even need religion, cannot you go about your life without a thought of god just for one day????
No,when a person is not aware of his physical needs he would soon die from hunger, thirst, exhaustion or exposure. obviously, it is our senses and nerves that make us conscious of our physical needs so that we will do something about supplying those needs that we may stay alive and enjoy life’s blessings.

What about our spiritual needs? Are you conscious of that? That it is possible for us not to be conscious of our spiritual needs Jesus Christ made clear. “Happy are those who are conscious of their spiritual need.”.”—Matt. 5:3.
But why are those who are conscious of their spiritual need happy?

Well spite of man’s normal craving for food, a sick condition of the body can develop to the point that he feels no desire for it. He lacks appetite. Considering what food means to us, it is evident that lack of appetite is a menace to good health and a direct danger to our life, if not remedied, and that is why.

They'll have to work quickly, if they want to get him to bequeathe them some dosh.

They are the three dimensional equivalent of spam email. If 1 in 100,000 visits nets them a few thousand pounds then it is worth their while. They're doing it on a voluntary basis but, to the organisation it is a zero-cost money harvest.

Might be similar with the Mormons and more than once I've had American accents at the doorstep, so they're not exactly short of funds, either.

Since neither group asks for money at the doorstep (laws against doorstep sales now, iirc) then there must be some other way of turning a buck.

Some account of their charitable works, in the "3rd world" (deprecated, un-PC term, these days, I gather) would make interesting reading. You can't eat copies of The Watchtower but they might make a dozen spills each.
