Could these have been intended to be set off aboard a US bound aircraft?

SP, no, not to 1948. Long before that.

/// A few mosque sweeps ion the UK wouldn't go amiss here in the UK either. ///

The going ons in the Mosques are swept on a regular basis, under the carpet to be precise.

You no doubt recall that The Bible has the entire Jewish people taken into captivity after its conquest by Egypt. Whether the Temple in Jerusalem existed at the time or was built after their Red Sea stunt, I either cannot recall or never appreciated to begin with.

Anyway, one way or another, they got their land back… for a time. Muslim expansion and conquest took it off them again, inspiring the Crusades.

Last time I read a Wiki piece about the post Anglo-French carve-up, the Israeli's were cast as the terrorists - a handful of British troops got killed.

// a handful of British troops got killed. //

not sure what your definition of "handful" is, but 92 isn't a handful in my book. the king david hotel bombing was the "9/11" of its day.

Don't forget the British soldiers hanged from trees in the orange grove.
Not only in the King David Hotel were 92 killed. Irgun hung British troops and mined roads,

This list starts at 1920 regarding the turbulence in Palestine and would go back hundreds of years prior no doubt.Certainly prior to 1948.

Hypo; //Last time I read a Wiki piece about the post Anglo-French carve-up, the Israeli's were cast as the terrorists - a handful of British troops got killed.//

They were killed by Jewish terrorists, but not "Israelis" , Israel wasn't formed until May 1948.
and the Nazis were nt Germans ?
O god I despair at the level of these discussions
PP, Is that addressed to me? If so, is it more 'Godwin's law' irrelevance.

Irgun was a terrorist organization, the King David Bombing was in 1946, to say that there were Israeli deaths to the British is wrong and gives a false picture, no Briton, as far as I know, has ever been killed by an Israeli, though a large number have been killed by Palestinians.

The IRA killed British soldiers, but nobody would say the "Irish" were responsible.
retrocop, the dispute and the animosity between the Palestinians and the Israelis goes back to biblical times and each have very long memories indeed. I’ve edited this bit from Wiki:

//The Land of Canaan (Israel) was, according to the Hebrew Bible, promised by God to the Jews. Muslims also claim rights to that land in accordance with the Quran. Contrary to the Jewish claim that this land was promised only to the descendants of Abraham's younger son Isaac, they argue that the Land of Canaan was promised to what they consider the elder son, Ishmael, from whom Arabs claim descent.//

Conflict has arisen because, after World War II, the land was given to the Jews (for obvious reasons no alternative tract of land on the planet would have been acceptable to them), so this is not a modern day conflict by any means, and contrary to SP’s claim, it does emanate from religion.
I must apologise for the word "handful". That was a cop-out, because I couldn't recall the actual figure, just that it was two digits, not three, or four, and "12" was the only number I could think of but that seemed too small for a wiki article of the length I recalled it being.

Now, before now I have lost more than a few 2000+ character drafts by switching tabs, to google a key fact, and I didn't want to get accused of exaggeration and this is terrorism I am brandishing, here, so I opted for understatement. I had no intention of diminishing the seriousness of the losses.

Half a second's thought process; three minutes to type it up.

The upside of getting facts wrong is that useful and relevant links are now posted in this thread. Thank you.
