I can't help noticing how many smelly candles are being sold these days....
Yankee Candle, etc.

These can't be made of bees wax, as there just isn't enough bees to go around !

So how is artificial wax made ?

I don't know the answer. But, could they be using some form of rendered animal fat as they used to do for tallow candles? (verysmelly!)
It's from paraffin wax....from oil-refining.

Apparently so Melv.
I think that using them is a girly-girly thing ~ I would probably set fire to the house if I used them.

Google Paraffin superyacht - it's the yacht commissioned by the guy who made a fortune from his Yankee Candle company. They are very popular obviously!!
Its a very special highly refined paraffin wax. There aren’t many refineries in the world that can make it and it requires special shipping to ensure its not contaminated. My DH used to be in charge of the storage and shipping at the UK supplier.
smelly disgusting fire hazards, no idea why anyone would have a use for them.
Just a heads up for those that do like them , there is a huge market in fake Yankee Candles and very convincing they are and dangerous too.
One use is to put horizontal markings at regular intervals on them, and use them as elapsed-timers.
