should the milder forms of FGM be legalised in the name of cultural sensitivity?
or would it be the thin end of the wedge?

bearing in mind, of course, that there's no will by the UK authorities to enforce their own law......

sqad, //perhaps we should look at it through the eyes of FGM believers.//

No. There are no half measures. Mutilating young girls is utterly wrong. They are cretins.
^^^LOL......well, that certainly obviates any debate.
Sqad...there is no medical reason whatsoever for any kind of FGM to place, at all. It is barbaric, and I for one couldn't give a monkeys what one backward ethnic group thinks.

I am somewhat surprised that you, of all people, should be giving any succour to this.
mikey...well, that is me and 2 American Gynaecologists that has come under the wrath of AB..............for offering an alternative to a policy that clearly isn't working.
Our comments don't obviate debate at all Sqad.

I am far from being happy to stifle debate. But, to be honest, if you are going to stick with your comments, you had better be prepared to defend your argument.

That comment of mine above, does state my argument.
Sqad...we are crossing in the post here !

The reason that its still happening in Britain, is that the various authorities are standing by and allowing it. More vigorous measures need to be applied to stop it happening, not making up some excuse why it should continue.
sqad, //LOL......well, that certainly obviates any debate.//

As it should along the lines you suggest. To even consider conceding to a thoroughly barbaric practice simply because uneducated people of an antiquated culture deem it a necessity is unthinkable. What next? Lopping heads off surgically and safely?!

mikey...that comment of naomis' above was what i was commenting on about "obviating " debate. You must admit that she was fairly...final in her post.
I wasn't. See my subsequent posts.
LOL.......^^^

O.K
Sqad...It is possible to argue with Naomi....I do it all the time !

But on this issue, I am 100% behind her, and others on here today.
^^Good.......
The question that must be asked is "Why has no one been found guilty of this horrendous crime, despite the practice being illegal for 30 Years"?
Celia Jeffreys says it all. I totally agree with her.
No

The phrases 'nuanced position ...' and 'cultural sensitivities ...' could only possibly have been coined by western adult males who are well past the age, and not the gender involved, where someone would come and cut off part of their genitalia with a blunt knife and no anesthetic.

The crux of the argument likes in the phrase used to describe it.

Gentlemen - you need to focus your minds on the 'M' bit of FGM - it stands for mutilation.

Do you have a problem understanding what that means?

If so, I am sure there is a queue of people with a blunt knife and a degree of righteous anger who will be delighted to drop round to your place and demonstrate it for you.
