What is it with tradesmen these days? Am having a very frustrating day so far. Supposed to be getting my hedge cut today - early they said. Up at 7.30 am and no sign of anyone yet. Piece of plastic broke off my venetian blind - firm came and had a look - very old fashioned they said, we can quote you for new blinds but can't repair! Joiner who is fitting a new composite back door was supposed to be up with a brochure at 9.30 - guess what?

Think I'll go back to bed and see if tomorrow turns out any better. Rant over!

If you go to bed they'll all turn up.
Know how you feel. I've lost count of tradesmen who say they'll ring at a certian time, but never do! Say they'll be round in 'an hour' and you're still waiting over two hours later, and then start a job only to not have all the necessary equiment and have to go and get it saying 'only be ten ninutes', meanwhile an hour later .......... Yep, been there, done that maggie !
I know how you feel, I accept that 'stuff' happens to hold people up but we have more ways of communication than we ever did in ye olden dayes and yet no one ever calls/texts or emails to say they'll be late or can't make it...and no one ever apologises.
Me and friend have theory on this. We think they all attend same course called "how to *** your customers off with lies about when to arrive + what lies to use for lateness",,eg...."just driven past a terrible car crash love, had to give CPR to 2 folk"

In fairness though good tradesmen usually has a few jobs going on at the same time plus having to pop to potential customers to give quotes etc..
The only sure way to get a tradesman to call is to get in the bath :-)
think of all the money you're saving ...
Or after waiting hours, give in to the need to go to the loo, guaranteed then that they will arrive and knock on the door !!
My father once booked a builder to fix a garden wall. A year later, he hadn't appeared, so my father booked another chap. He was delighted to see a builder starting work on the wall the very next week.
You've guessed it - it was the first chap who had turned up while the cancellation letter was still in the post.
It is worst if you have taken a day of work, losing a day's holiday.
