Water has been dripping onto the car bonnet from a leak in the garage roof.
It has left a mark which my husband is finding difficult to remove. Anyone any hints please.

I suspect it's limescale. Try T Cut, or similar. I would be loath to use limescale remover on the grounds that it might double as paint remover.
"left a mark"....doesn't really describe the problem properly. If it has left a deposit (above the paint surface), this may well dissolve off with mild acid (such as vinegar) or be removed using a very mild abrasive cleaner - such as T-Cut. However, modern paint finishes are water- (not solvent) based and the actual top surface can be eroded easily by all manner of things...so if the mark is caused by some of the top surface being "dissolved" away, then the best you can do is to make it less noticeable.
water has got into the lacquer leave it outside it will take a while to fade/dry
if kept in garage it will take ages to fade/dry out
did it with a freshly resprayed Subaru covered it moisture got under cover
took cover of took a week or so to fade
