Am I the only one who can't bear to listen to ITV's new political editor Robert Peston?

His overemphasis of words his constant stuttering broken dialogue makes it very hard to understand what he is going on about.

I know what you mean AOG. Very quirky style of delivery.
The overemphasis is the bit that gets me. His sentences stumble to the full stop.

I can live with it though!
I totally agree. I must of mentioned it to Mrs retro last night and the night before. A totally over exaggerated drama queen who really relishes his 3-4 minutes of fame. I can't stand his sickly grin when he delivers his story to the anchorman. Sure he might be a nice chap off camera.
Mr Peston is a seriously respected journalist - he was Ecconomics Editor at the BBC.

But ... we are talking media here, and the physical and verbal presentation of information is paramount. It is essential that the presenter does not distract from the information he or she is delivering because it reduces credibility in what is being said.

The weirdest thing of all is that as part of the deal, Mr Peston was offered a chat show!!!

I cannot imagine how that would pan out, when his ability to string a coherent sentence together is at the opposite end of the scale to his grasp of politics and economics.

I used to loathe the late Sir Terry Wogan for his unique speech patterns, but he was restricted to light entertainment.

For serious journalism, you need a person who can be taken seriously - on all levels.

Mr Peston does not begin to cut it.
I find you have to concentrate really hard to follow what he says.
It's a bit like listening to Shakespeare - you have to translate as you go along, you can't just listen and understand as you can (and should be able to!) with any other television journalist.
I rarely watch the Other Side, but I never had any problems with Peston when he was on the Beeb. Quirky perhaps but he always explained things well enough for me. He is certainly not one of the usual speak your weight machines !
I have to say I was like that with Moira Stewart's mumbling style. (cue racism...)
I agree: and when the unbearably smug Tom Bradby and Peston are together in the studio (as last night) it really is cringeworthy.

Racism? Why?

You are not inferring that Ms Stewart's pronunciation is the result of her ethnicity, so I fail to see why anyone could make a slur out of your statement.
Andy, I take nothing for granted on this site!

Isn't that the usual label that is attached, when anyone on here happens to criticise anyone with a dark skin, for whatever reason?

Er - no.

Context drives criticism and moderating on this site regarding racism, or any other unfounded nastiness - and has since Day One.
I commented on Robert last year, the year he lost his wife knocked Robert, I understand Robert uses this site, he either does that or looks in, I agree his speech get's to people but you must admit he does put his comments over well, but I wish he would go back to the Robert Peston I used to know, the smart one not the scruffy one that you see now.
// His overemphasis of words his constant stuttering broken dialogue makes it very hard to understand what he is going on about.//

so you give up after a few words
and completely miss the content

in short he predicted single handedly the crash of 2008 whilst being bad mouthed by the rest ( such as you )
and being right when everyone else was wrong ( including you )
should be listened to

and not subjected to : " o he ums a lot for my liking, so I never listen "
// I understand Robert uses this site, he either does that or looks in, //

O god what does he look at
and for how long before the obvious conclusion

all the same old bolloocks
