how long after stopped taking statins can you eat grapefruit? and why can't you eat it while on them? also how long after eating them should you leave it before you restart the statins again? thanks

grapefruit interacts with whatever it is in your body that breaks down the statins in your blood. That can cause a build up in, think it is the Kidneys.
I don't know the answer the amount of time you have to wait. Mr U wasn't given that info, he just avoids it and gets annual blood test for kidney and liver function.

About 24-48 hours as statins have a short half life (get out of the system)

Some doctors say that it doesn't matter, BUT if it does matter then mixing the two increases the action of statins, particularly Simvastatin and increases the side effects.
