I have an ivy plant that has got out of control. I used to keep it trimmed to just the side of the garage. However, because I have been unable to garden, it has completely covered the walls and roof. I tried to get someone to remove it but they tell me that the garage roof is asbestos and therefore the ivy can't be removed safely. The ivy is now beginning to grow over my neighbours garage and will cause problems. What can I do?

Cut it off at the roots and let it die. Or have a HSE registered asbestos removal company take the asbestos away.
Low grade asbestos-cement corrugated sheets, Vizz. Minimal hazard. The last thing you need is to gat into replacing the roof.

Do as Zacs says. Trace the roots and hack.......

Thanks. Will I be able to pull it off safely myself then when its dead? It's causing rainwater to pour through into the garage.
Yes, Vizz. Go ahead.

Thank you :-)
..... And if you can't manage to trace it back and cut it down yourself, try asking someone else. have a look in the newsagents or supermarket noticeboard locally for someone who would do a days gardening for not a huge fee. They probably wouldn't be worried by the roof.
The Asbestos sheet will be fine as long as you don't cut, saw or drill it.
Pulling the ivy off is not a hazard.
I was works chemist for the company that makes fibre cement roof sheets for 18 years. People use the 'asbestos factor' as an excuse to charge a fortune to even touch it.
I would still buy some dust masks from a DIY store though, you can't be too careful.
