Can anyone tell me how to disable the touchpad?
I could do it on my old one, also W10, but when I follow the same procedure of Settings etc, when I get to advanced mouse options there is no mention of a synaptics pointing device, let alone an option to disable it. Instead it is gibberish. Have I just bought a duff machine? Everything else works fine.

If you tell us the make and maybe model number of the laptop we may be able to help.

Or just search with Google for the laptop model name and number and "disable touchpad".

So for example if you have bought an ASUS abc123 laptop then search for

"ASUS abc123 disable touchpad"

or maybe

"ASUS abc123 Windows 10 disable touchpad"

The name on it is Stone. There is no model number, nor did it come with printed instructions. I tried googling but with no success. It was very cheap, so maybe I've bought a pig in a poke, although everything else seems to be OK.
The procedure for disabling a touchpad is specific to individual computer models and is unrelated to the version of Windows (or indeed Linux or anything else) that's on them.

So, without knowing the make and model of your laptop, we can't give you a precise answer.

However you seem to have been doing it the hard way anyway, as most laptops have a key combination that does the task. You need to press the 'Fn' key together with the one that's got a symbol (in the same colour as 'Fn') that looks like a touchpad.

In this example it's F7:

Here it's F9:

Thanks Chico, but no joy. Not a major issue, I can live with it.
Looks like it is these people

Looks like they mainly sell in to government departments - NHS, Police etc.

I think you are right, VHG. Bought it from a shop locally, dirt cheap (£240). As I say it's working fine for what I want but I will be more selective in future.

Could it be stolen goods?
