And I don't understand what Albert Steptoe has to do with it.

"These men have a cultural mindset, which they've brought from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh," she said.''
"They don't like women to be heard, to be empowered, because we will then challenge the status quo, challenge misogyny."

Everything I have read on Twitter (Muslim men & women I follow) backs that statement up. Will Jeremy stand up for these women?

Mon Dieu, I look a right nana now.
If the councils members are predominantly Muslim men , nothing will change unless a way can be found to convince Muslim women that they can be liberated, independent and vote as they want. What is needed is a form of 'Women's Lib' for Muslim females. It happened for Western women between 1900 and the 1970 s, starting with the suffragettes and ending with the 'women's lib ' of the 1960 /70 s . Will it happen?
The problem is that Islam specifically states that women are inferior to men, and men have the right to be dominant over them.
Eddie - doesn't the Bible also do that?
Ummmm no the Bible does not say specifically that a woman is worth only 50% of a man as the Quran does. The Quran also says that women can be treated as slaves by men.
In any case very, very few non Muslims believe the Bible to be the actual words of God that must be obeyed without question, as is the case with Muslims and the Quran.
Does that mean white males would be more in favour of Muslim women than Muslim men? It's not going to be easy to get Muslim female MPs elected, is it?
^^ Yes , that is the point I am trying to make. Non Muslim men are likely to view a Muslim woman as an independent person in her own right. Muslim men are told by the Quran that it is the word of God to treat women as inferior and their property to do with as they like.

well even I wouldn't blame labour for the mental cases in the R0P.
Presumably, if Muslim men don't want women to become councillors, this will apply regardless of political party, so the emphasis on Labour is quite spurious.
Question Author
I'd imagine the kind of Muslim men who join other parties aren't quite so backward.
Yes nothing to do with Labour or any other political party .
I read an interesting article about the Quran stating that women were worth fifty percent of men. Apparently up until that point women had been worth nothing and so fifty percent was a massive leap in the right direction.
