I have just had an email to my main email from a friend who has received an email that my sister in law sent to my other email address. These two people have no connection with each other How could this happen?

Either your SIL has sent it to your friend as a cc (copy) or you have forwarded to your friend or replied to your SIL and copied in your friend.
