Yesterday I was in the Post Office. The counter clerk was busy putting a stamp on my parcel. I said that her nails looked nice. She said that were Shellac but she thought they were too pale. I said no, they look good. She was so happy and said I had made her day.
Just thought I would say. If you are not sure whether to compliment someone give it a go as it will most likely be appreciated. Anyone else given to or received compliment from a stranger?

I'd like for our country (U.S.) not to be so politically correct since, as a guy, I can't offer the same admiration faux or not, that you did Grassy… here, if a man were to offer such a compliment he'd soon be suspected of offending some feminist within ear shot, or worse,be accused of offering a lame pick-up line. I'm finding more and more people can't take compliments and sometimes take them with suspicion. A couple of times recently I've seen really nicely dressed young children and commented on how nice they looked -all I've got back is a scowl from their mothers. I've always thought the British very uneasy about taking compliments and seem to have to reply with some sort of excuse "oh this old thing" or words to that effect.

A few hours later she said that she had better call a taxi as she should head for home .
Don't bother with a taxi i said - i'll take you home .
We arrived outside her house , she got out of the car and asked , would i like to come in for a night cap .

I love to give compliments, I think it is a wonderful thing to do.
Yesterday, I returned a shirt bought for me that was too big, and the customer service lady (probably mid-forties) told me that returns from Christmas ended at the end of January, but she would put it through for me.
I told her she was very kind, and smiled at her.
She said that if I had not come in, I would have missed the chance of seeing her, and I agreed that would have been a serious loss.
I then said that if I was thirty years younger, and better looking and single, I would wink at her ... and then said I would wink anyway, which I did, and she blushed!
The trick is to quit while you are ahead!
