Some swear by a raw food diet.
That depends so much on the dog. One of mine can put on weight on thin air and digest anything, his litter brother has got food allergies. Some people will tell you that raw is the ONLY way to go, some will tell you that feeding tinned food leads to dental problems. is your dog nor doing well on what he is fed?

He is doing well on dried food and wet food- he is like a little bear now.
There is no 'best' food - it's all down to what your dog likes and what he/she thrives on.

I've had two dogs who lived very long, happy, healthy lives being fed mainly on Bakers Complete (which is widely sneered at and vilified).

The other two were more tricky - one eventually settled down to pouches of moist food with wholegrain mixer added, the other gets the squits if I ever try to move him away from his Arden Grange Lamb and Rice complete food - so that's what he always gets.

Experiment, see what makes your dog happy and healthy - don't believe the "we know best" brigade - they don't know your individual dog.
Oh heck.....I read that as...he likes a little bear now, Conne.......had visions of you raiding the local zoo for his supper...☺
If he’s doing well JJ then what’s the problem?

no problems - only certain foods are advertised as this being great and that.
oh advertising......you don’t believe that stuff do you?
