Chestnuts For Squirrels?

I have some left over chestnuts which have gone past their best.

We have a squirrel that frequents the garden, raiding the peanut holder. I put four of the unpeeled chestnuts on the lawn this morning, hoping that the squirrel would take them. All day, it's been running around the garden, up and down the tree, burying peanuts in the borders, ignoring the chestnuts.

I have just been out to pick up the chestnuts and they have gone. Do you think the squirrel found them, eventually or has something else picked them up? Do squirrels eat chestnuts?

I deter my squirrels by squirting them with water pistol, loaded with water, fairy liquid and a dash of chilli powder....they don't like it up 'em :-)

I mean, grey squirrels, too.

I have never shelled a coconut. My dad used to do ours when I was a child. It seemed like a lot of hard, and potentially dangerous, work
I’m pretty bad at it Tilly.
Wrap it in a cloth, hit it with a hammer, be grateful for all the meat that comes away (about 30 percent on a good day), then prise the rest out with a small sharp knife.
The number of times I have cut myself for the sake of my squirrels. I hope they appreciate me!
I put some chestnuts out on my bird table and magpies took them.
