New smart phone bought.

Info says ' do not cut the sim card '

Why exactly shouldn't i do that - what will happen if i do cut it ?
My current sim card in my phone is bigger than the slot on the new phone

As long as you don't cut the 'gold' bit, it should be OK.
There are micro sims that fit in the small slots.

You may need to contact the phone company you have your contract with and ask them to send you a new smaller sim for the new phone (but linked to the old phone number of course).
check your card as all cards now should come with a push out micro card
I cut mine down to fit my new phone. There are plenty of cutting templates on the web.

Nowadays , do you need to charge your phone fully before you start using
it ?
You can cut the card to size, but the plain surface needs to be Rubbed slightly, you can get a Tem Plate as said, you can also get it cut by your local Mobile shop, the charge a £1.00 here, regards charging your phone, you have to charge your phone in any case.
