There has been a lot of jeering on AB recently about the Labour Party in general, and Corbyn in particular, especially over the decision on whether to start air strikes against against ISIS in Syria.

But the reality is, that because the Tories have such a small majority, they need Labours support for this extension of the RAF activities in the region.

Another reason that dave desperately needs the Labour Party to support him in this, is because he can't rely on enough of his own MPs to get the vote through.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon in the link above, has made a very good case and I am on record as supporting dave in this matter.

There's an interesting leader in today's Times urging Corbyn not to allow a free vote.
Boots on the ground may in the end be needed but if this is true it will be against a weakened force;

and should be weighed up by those who say bombing doesn't work.
^There's nothing in that article suggesting bombing alone works.
^^ yes that's why I say 'in the end may be needed', but bombing is effective in softening the target, and will be lessening the casualties on the side of those boots on the ground.
On no he don't.
Mr Corbyn has been forced into a humiliating climb-down over his opposition to the bombing campaign - he has had to give his MP's a free vote, because applying a whip would see him embarrassed in the chamber (again!).

Our input into the bombing is probably cosmetic - Dave doing his PR bit, rather than because our small input is going to be needed or noticed.

More importantly, is for the government not to go wading in without a strategy for the next phase - which has tripped up our policy in the very recent past.

We shall see - but I for one am worried about Dave banging on about bombing, as though that is the solution, when clearly it would be only part of the solution.
