The headline figure is eye-wateringly large but that seems typical for modern US damages claims. There was one a couple of years back, I think, where the total claim was for more than the entire GDP of the planet -- if you assumed that fresh cash had been generated a thousand trillion times a second for the last millennium.

I admit that my initial response was that the school had over-reacted. The story read like that for a long time. It seems that fee-seeking lawyers have got involved. We now also know that the family are heading to Qatar. It doesn't follow that the initial assumption that the kid was making a bomb is true. So - my initial response was correct and I don't see the need to alter or apologise for it.
