We have had our flat screen Panasonic TV for around eight years and have noticed patches of different colours on the screen, almost like a colour wash, on people's faces and backgrounds. Can this be tuned in to improve the picture or is the TV getting old?

no dont think tuning would do it and 8 years aint old for a tv especially for a panasonic
A common problem with flat screen TVs, plasma TVs in particular, is screen distortion, which includes issues such as dead pixels and screen burn. There are many different solutions, but one cost-effective method requires an external DVD player (even if the TV has a built-in DVD player) and a pixel corrector DVD.

//Start by disconnecting all devices from the TV except the DVD player. Use the TV's menu to navigate to the resolution selection screen, and choose the highest resolution supported by the TV. Insert the pixel corrector DVD into the DVD player and choose the repair function you need, or use the software wizard to guide you through the process.//

You can buy the pixel correction dvds smurfy but you need more tech info regarding the screen. Is it plasma or lcd or whatever?

Thanks Togo. Its a plasma, model TH 50PZ70B. Where would I get the pixel corrector DVD? The TV is only connected to an external DVD player, and seems mainly to happen on people's foreheads or red clothes!! They go a funny colour ...
Give me 5 smurfy. I will have a good look and research that model. Just a thought I seem to remember that it is better with a blue ray dvd. But the flaring you now describe could be some thing else.

Thanks Togo. I have always used the same panasonic DVD player, Model DMR EX98V, both bought at the same time.

This may be of use smurfy. Amazon used to sell them but I cannot find it now. There is a blu ray and standard version on this site. Be careful to order PAL version if you purchase. But worth looking at the tech blurb anyway.
I have both Panasonic tv and blu ray. Love em.
