Picked some up today as they were recommended to me and on a good deal in Aldi. What is your favourite way of cooking them?

Slow cooker recipes also welcome now I have one :)

Thanks for any advice.

I just use them like onions.
In the oven, Eve with water and dark brown sugar...x
I used to microwave onions, which are lovely. I imagine shallots would be nice done that way too,
Add them whole to a beef bourguignon.

Thanks for that. Was tempted to pop them in the slow cooker tomorrow though already have spring onion for that. Was told they last though so don't need to use them for that.ive got some gammon steaks so could use some with them.

Ooh you all weren't there when I posted. Thanks for the ideas.

I don't think I've ever microwaved onions and I microwave a lot. How long do you do them for?

That sounds lovely Gness! I think that could be another slow cooker experiment Sharon :)
I honestly can't remember Eve, not long though, maybe a couple of minutes in a tablespoon of water. I must do them again, now I've remembered, they come out really soft and sweet.
I'm going to tuck into a venison stew/casserole tonight - have been out in the cold all day and it's just what the doctor ordered.
Lots of root veggies, diced venison tossed in seasoned flour, shallots, red peppers, garlick all really well seasoned with a vegetable stock cube and a beef one thrown in - 8 hours in the slow cooker - delicious.

I'll have to try that Eth, thanks.

That sounds lovely rsvp! I did a beef stew last weekend but was quite tomatoey as didn't want to waste half a tin of chopped tomatoes. Nice with rice though and it was lovely the day after over pasta shells too.

I'm cheating tonight, am sat in the Chinese takeaway waiting for my salt and pepper chicken, they do it beautifully!
Why stock cubes rsvp? They're the work of the devil. Either just add wine and water and let the ingredients do the talking or make your own stock - soooo much better.
Stock cubes cos they are easier and I like them diddlydo - but will try your suggestion next time - thanks
recommend a very easy way to peel them .... put them in a heat proof bowl, pour over boiling water to cover the onions, and allow to stand for a few minutes. You will find peeling them much easier. And if you put them in a very large bowl, then you can peel them under the (cooled) water so no crying ..... Chox.
Caramelised in frying pan.
