Seriously annoyed I had an email from Talk Talk to say that I am one of the customers who has had their details stolen. No bank or debit card details were taken but my name address and email address as well as telephone numbers were stolen. At the end of the email it laughingly says it takes the security of customers data very seriously !! I should be able to leave them without a penalty charge for this.Surely they are in breach of contract

This is what Martin Lewis says, you need to get in touch and be strong.

Mind you I don't advise ringing unless you have a stiff drink and lots of deep breaths. I've just got off the phone to them and I'm fuming, not helped by not understanding more than 50% of what Ashwura was saying to me.
// i want to know where i stand legally //

well at present Talk Talk say you cant and other people NJ say you can.
Typical prelude to litigation

The draft letter looks OK altho I think 'who' should be 'whom' in the second last para

try it and see
you will get a penalty no matter how much you talk or communicate - I had to pay one because you would be out a fortune on the phone talking Amama in India.
This information is available on-line, for everyone, sometimes at a small premium.

Can I ask what you expect to gain?

I would have thought you had gotten off lightly given your info is privy to everyone.

TalkTalk were unlucky, it could have been any of the major players.I'd be delighted it wasn't as serious as once thought, I left them only recently and I certainly was pleased to learn I hadn't been majorly compromised.

They'll be the most secure providers now, i'd stay put.

My case has been rested baldric !

PeterPedant...i've been 'done' twice, quite substantially. Thankfully I was re-imbursed as it was a major concurrent scam.I've never been so relieved.
Just wait until your contract is up and switch.

you've been done twice
and dont tell me you are still with that firm ?

You deserve that medal they give to triers who dont give up and dont learn either
Strangely PeterPedant they were bought out/over not long after ;) However I remain vigilant with any existent financial organisations I have the misfortune to have to deal with :)
