In the last week, I have met a lad aged about 12, who was very polite when I stopped to ask for directions and his name was TC !

And yesterday, I met a single Mum who was called KC. I thought I had misheard heard and asked her was it spelt Casey or Kacey, but no...it was just KC !

What on earth were the parents thinking about ?

Strawberry! Was the child named after the Bond girl, or maybe the parents were thinking along the theme of Gwyneth Paltrow's Apple.
I once knew a lad with the unfortunate name of Charlie Simple. Yes. It's true.
My sister had a neighbour called Russell Hobbs(he was named BEFORE the kettle though!).
A know someone who named their son Miles... don't they know it should be kilometres now?

You asked a 12 year old for directions.. ?
I know a delightful little girl, the parents didn't think this one out very well.
****** Rose Cox.

No the asterisk do not hide a naughty word, just her first name.
Years ago, on a radio prog, there was discussion about unfortunate names. There was a woman whose surname was Rose and her parents called her Wilde. "oh isn't that lovely? Wilde Rose" blah blah blah. She got used to the teasing but when she grew up, she married a man with the surname of Bull so she became Wilde Bull. NOT a good name !
Would have been a great name Jan,,,,if she was an "Injun"

Copacetic...yes I did...not sure what is wrong with ? His grandfather didn't know but this very polite and helpful kid did. I complimented his grandfather on his grandson...so many kids today are rude.

But what would have been wrong with asking him if he had been on his own ?
Lack of life experience/knowledge. If you were looking for directions you would initially approach someone who looked like they may know the answer. I would not ask a child because there is a high likelihood that they might not know.

In this case he did know....not only that, he handed the Westie's lead to his grandfather and showed me exactly where the building was. We need more kids like his one, but what a pity he is landed with a risible name.

To be fair to the grandfather, he looked a little sheepish when the kid said his name !

But I can't understand why some parents just don't use some common sense here. They should think about what their kids are going to be subject to for the rest of their lives before giving out such daft names.

Llamagirl...thanks. This happened in broad daylight, with other people present ( who didn't know where Cxxxxo House was either ! )

It's not hard to change your name. You're not legally obliged to even use your birth name as long as you put it on official forms when asked if you were known by any other name.

Llamagirl...the man reason that I used some x's is to stop anybody from googling the house name and perhaps identifying the address I was going to.

And I simply can't agree that in the future, 98% of names will be "unothordox and off-the-wall"...where did you get the 98% from ?
I think that Chief Superintendent Cressida Dick should have married the crestfallen Labour MP Ed Balls:-)
