Why Oh Why Do I Do This

I do have social anxiety, so I am not sure if this is part of that, but it really gets me down.

I was ordering a take away tonight and while doing so, I decided to put a comment in the text box where you specify how you would like your meal cooked etc., that my last take away from them was excellent, followed by a thank you.

The delivery driver arrived (who I think was either the owner or the manager) and when I answered the door he said "thank you for the comment on your last take away". I then replied with "that's great", when I said it I thought to myself what the hell are you saying that does not even make sense. There was a bit of a silence and he then said "well enjoy your meal" I said "thank you" and could not wait to close the door.

Afterwards I could think of all the right things I could have said, that would have made sense, even a simple you're welcome, but oh no that would be too straight forward.

Now I think the guy must thing I am some strange idiot who cant even hold a conversation properly. I feel embarrassed and it will probably mean that I will not order from them again.

Does anyone else do this ?

I'm unsure what you think you should have said, nor why the driver expected you to say anything. Didn't mistake hos waiting for a tip with expecting a conversation, were you ?
We all get tongue tied at times, at least you didn't say anything wrong
Don't get too hung up on it.

Having a short conversation with a person you don't know is always difficult and we have all said silly things or things we wish we had not said.

The main thing is you seem to be making a big deal of it when the guy has probably forgotten it already, so you should forget it and move on.
I'm sure that the delivery driver is not giving this a second thought. He's probably too busy with other deliveries. It would be silly not to order from them again, if they are so good.

Forget it.
Lol, I do it all the time.
I do it all the time.
I'll tell you what the guy's thinking - what a good customer to leave an online glowing review.

Gosh sometimes the daftest phrases come out of my mouth , put it out of mind.
Nothing wrong at all with "That's great", don't worry yourself over it
I reckon he was just being courteous and possibly also hoping to charm a tip out of you. Don't sweat it, you did fine.
Don't worry about it. You gave a good answer. xx
