Windermere is always busy. Why not try somewhere a bit quieter? Leeming House on Ullswater is nice, in fact there are plenty of hoterls in that area. If you don't need to be very close to water, The Bower House Inn in Eskdale is good, or The Punchbowl at Crosthwaite

I love Hillthwaite House at Windermere but don't know how much it is nowadays....
