where to visit on my trip round th USA?
I'm after suggestions for places that are really worth a visit, even if just for a day. i have a rough idea of where i'm going, New york to Florida then california via texas, then canada via vegas, yosimite, & yellowstone then toronto & back in NC on september 4th.
i havn't really got nething for the east coast (except the whitehouse which is probably boring) & texas is a bit vague. also where is the rockface with the 3 presidents?(just curious).
Areas of outstanding beauty, really good theme parks & tourist attractions would all be apreciated

Art galleries and museums: NYC and Washington. Government buildings: Washington. Historic places: Savannah and Charleston (or for really old ones, Jamestown and Plymouth). Theme parks: Orlando or LA. Beauty spots: Yosemite and Yellowstone; also Grand Canyon and lots of similar national parks in the west and southwest; and New England in the fall, if you're around at that time. The presidents are at Mt Rushmore, South Dakota. Can't help with Texas. But really your route will be full of great things to see; even the ones I've mentioned are just scratching the surface.

San Francisco is one of my favourite places and just beautiful.
Alcatraz in San Francisco bay is very interesting as well.
6 Flags theme park in LA is good and Universal Studios.
Yosemite is a must. Monterey down the coast is lovely and has a nice aquarium. You could do a drive in general down the pacific coast highway.
You could see if there are any rodeos going on in Texas.
Toronto isn't far from the great lakes and Niagara.
New York has the Empire State, Statue of Liberty.

I found Boston absolutely charming - quite "old British" in a way. Some delightful neighbourhoods, and outside the city you're into New England, very pretty, although you'll be too early for "The Fall". In NY do the Rockefeller centre ("top of the rock") - rather than Empire State. Its higher and the high-speed lift is something else!

In NY when visiting the main site GO EARLY. The ferry terminal to the statue of liberty and the empire state all high high security now so all bags are sent through an xray machine and all people must pass through the metal detector thingys, same ones you get at the airport. Takes ages, so definately go early.

Chattanooga is a lovely old town with a brilliant little museum, plus you get to do the *choo choo* .... How about Nashville - a different band in virtually every single (honkytonk) bar, all playing live music (great for meeting the locals...lol). If nothing else, then get off the tourist trail and meet the real people there, most of whom have never even been outside their own state, let alone gone abroad ! A really daftie place to visit is *Pigeon Forge* - totally bonkers - not far from Dollywood. Or you could try *Helen* - it looks like some Austrian village high up in the Alps... but is in America ... as I say, bonkers !

Kings Canyon in California with the oldest and biggest giant redwood is a must see. Total wow

If you happen to visit Dallas while in Texas,be sure to visit The 6th Floor Museum at the old Texas School-book Depository Building.For me 2 hours was like 2 minutes,absolutely fascinating.Where history was made 1n 1963.Also,about 30 miles to the west,visit Fort Worth Stockyards

if you are after theme parks then both Florida and California have Disney parks and Universal Studios. If you want great rollercoasters and other fantastic rides mainly for adults I would go to Universal in Florida the Islands of Adventure park. Of course I would imagine both parks in California are equally great too you will have to see what you have time for. Your itinerary sounds fab I am jealous! You could also get a few holiday brochures with the areas in you are visiting, they will point out the best bits too.

Niagara falls is a sight to behold go on the maid of the mist i was there last week :-)
the CN tower in Toronto is a must as long as you dont mind heights
