USA imigration

I have just read on a travel forum, about the new online forms you can fill in as part of the visa waiver program for the usa (this is voluntary from 1st August and will become mandatory from Jan 09) what has me puzzled is that someone said when you go through imigration and have your photo taken and finger prints you then have to pay 6 dollars for your passport to be stamped ,is this right? I have read quite a lot about vwp and imigration etc but Ive never seen anything about this before, I dont mind paying, I just wondered why I hadnt read it before

It is right.

However if you travel by air you don't notice it - the airline pays it on your behalf and it's hidden in the extras on your ticket.

If you arrive by land then you do have to pay the $6.
