Take breathing apparatus, avoid contact with a thousand buses, beggars, don't go anywhere near the central buiding site (new shopping complex under construction) and leave any cars at the Park and Ride carparks unless you are suicidal.

If the visit is in vacation time, some of the college gardens/grounds are lovely. The Bodleian shop has some most unusual gifts. If there are children involved, they will insist on seeing the shrunken heads and the ghastly weapons in the Pitt Rivers museum. There will be concerts galore, sung evensong, many recitals all over the city. There is more music per square inch in Oxford than anywhere else I know ( the University alone has twelve orchestras)
