Travel on a tuesday and either book well in advance when the flights are first released or at the very last minute.

I tend to look at Skyscanner first but I would avoid the strange sounding suppliers, I also go to the airline sites but be wary about code sharers. A flight costing £704 through KLM is £1010 through their code share partner Delta and the flights are on Delta. If you can be flexible you can also cut costs, some show a range of prices for different days. If you're flying out of London, check other airports, a flight from London was £70 dearer than from Manchester, but the Manchester flight shuttled down to London and connected with the dearer flight. We fly from Norwich to Amsterdam, the extra time is worth it because of the speed of immigration etc. on return.

Did book a last minute flight last year. Went onto Thomson site
where they have deals. Enter when you can fly. Within the next 3days etc. Got 2 return flights to Malaga for £50 each.
