Thinking of a short break to York with 8 year old in tow.

Other than the obvious attractions (York Minster / Dungeons etc...) is there much to go out to justify a 2-3 night break and would there be enough to satisfy an 8 year olds attention span?

Also suggestions for a hotel (preference central location) would be most welcome...

Thanks!

Railway Museum
Jorvik Centre

I would think there is more than enough there. In fact, there is probably more there than in a lot of places.

I stayed at the Royal York which was very nice indeed but a bit pricy.
Ah, forgot, Jorvik is closed after it got flooded. It will not reopen until next year.

Thanks

I think a pricey hotel would be lost on the little guy, perhaps save that for taking his mum away!

There is a Park Inn by Radisson on the river not too far from the centre working out at £164 for 2 nights inc full breakfast - that for a city centre appears competitive...

Had no idea about Jorvik flooding.... thanks for the tip.

Captain2 cheers for the link
A trip up to the top of the Minster and down into the Undercroft may appeal. I think i was about that age when I accompanied my dad up there. just walking on the walls would be quite exciting and there are frequent Ghost Walks (nothing too scary I believe).
as long as the little one isn't too tired by then, the "ghost walk" is entertaining....
Walk around the City, on the City Walls !

The National Railway Museum is an essential visit, with kids or not .....a few years ago, I had to be dragged out of there, kicking and screaming, when I was 51 !
Don't forget a trip to Betty's, lovely place!

There is quite often a queue so a good idea to allow plenty of time if you are going.

Depending on the time of year, they do boat trips down the river.

There is also quite a nice park by the river.

I've never been there with a child so not sure about other things.
The evening ghost trip was excellent, really good fun
