What Is Considered The Centre Of Benidorm?

Am going to Alicante for a few days and thought I would pop along to Benidorm, (last visited in 1973).
Want to take the tram there and have lunch and a bit of a walk about but it seems enormous. Haven't a clue which direction to head in. Can work out how to get to the sea, but is the 'old' and possibly more interesting part headed east or west?
Is there any particular high rise that stands out that would be centralish?
