Between Wales and Surrey, possibly Cotswold area, or Gloucester Hereford? Going up towards Forth Bridge. Doesnt have to be Cotswolds, perhaps Wiltshire ? Not too expensive, a small market town type place not too quiet with pub and restaurants in walking distance. B&b accommodation. Am I asking too much? Thanks all.

Painswick and Castle Combe are also 'chocolate box' villages.
The Lamb Inn at Burford has nothing but good reports. Beautiful village with places to eat and things to see and not too far off your main route across the country.

I was going to suggest Burford, my son worked there for a while. Gets busy in the 'tourist' season though.
