Am going to Finland in July to compete in the Sulkava rowing marathon, and staying on for a couple of days afterwards with a friend Any tips of what to do in that area?

Helsinki, one of the most beautiful and cleanest cities I've ever visited, enjoy it.

Thanks. Anything in particular that you enjoyed there?
We were only there for about 5 hours, a port of call on a Baltic cruise, but wouldn't hesitate in returning.

It's not a huge city, but clean and beautiful. The Orthodox cathedral and the church in the rocks are both worth a visit.
Take plenty of money. Finland makes Sweden and Norway appear to be cheap. Wonderful scenery though. I have been to Aland and didn't want to come home.
The rock church is amazing. Would strongly recommend The Sea Horse restaurant which is favoured by the locals. A short walk from the city but well worth it. Wonderful food and atmosphere at very reasonable prices. The Finns eat early so don't think you can wander out at 9pm and eat dinner. Helsinki bikes are also very good and free. You put in a Euro, take a bike then return it wherever there is a bike station and redeem your Euro (be aware there are no brakes). Great city to walk around

The friend I'm going with is lethal enough on a bicycle, so not sure about the 'no brakes ' bit!
Thanks for your suggestions
