It probably is for NY. I`m curious to know why someone would seek out hotels on 8th Avenue though. I`d go for Lexington, 2nd 3rd or 5th.

My mother and her friend are going and want to be within walking distance of Times Square.

Milford Plaza is one block from Times Square. If you use a hotel booking service rather than book directly with the hotel then you can get some good deals.

I stayed here and got a good deal with flights on Expedia:

It's on 45th at Madison Avenue.

It was a 10 minute walk to Time Square and via a lovely diner called the Red Flame where we had breakfast every morning.
