We're off to Florida......................

...................in three weeks. Lots of hurricanes are forecast before the end of November. We were caught in Hurricane Wilma a few years ago. Don't want to do that again!

Thanks. It will be an experience anyway, if we get caught again!
Sorry to put a downer on things but why, if you know there could be hurricanes, do you put your family risk by going in the hurricane season
Because odds are there won`t be one. I`ve been going to the Caribbean every September for years and never had a hurricane yet. You mostly just get the rain storms around them but they pass off pretty quickly. I have been in a hurricane in Florida but they`re not always the life and death scenarios you see on the tv.
the Caribbean's a big area and in fact hurricanes aren't restricted to it - I had to put off driving to Washington some years ago becuase Hurricane Fex was revolving offshore.

So there could be a hurricane around and yet you'll almost certainly be hundreds of miles away and know nothing about it.

I doubt that they've really "forecast" hurricanes, they're probably just making guesses on the basis of sunspots and El Nino, and have the usual list of names lined up. You've got a 99.9% chance of having an entirely hurricane-free holiday. Enjoy yourself!
They can forecast hurricanes. They start off West Africa and if the conditions are right there, then it will be a busy season.
it's not really an exact science, though

There have been years when they've predicted a lot and got fewer than normal. (Didn't that happen just a few years back?) This year they're prediting normal levels

What's the point of that robert367?

Can't you find your own words?
Have a great time and don;t worry. What will be will be you cannot do anything about it I'm afraid. We have been in September and October. In fact going for cruise in October this year and staying in Florida. Just have a great time. You wouldnt be going by Virgin flights would you? x
