What to do in Alicante

I am considering a cheap holiday in Alicante. Holiday apartments seem rather cheap, which is great, but i was wondering what is available in terms of sightseeing and travel etc?

Lovely city with an interesting marina. If you want a different type of holiday, take the train along the coast to Benidorm.

Well in Alacant you have the Arab fortress,loads of tapas bars, try the local horchata drink, Real Valenciano Paella. In nearby Elx (Elche) famous for shoe making you have shoe outlets. Also in Elx you have the famous Palm gardens. Did the Benidorm-Alacant train journey round trip, took hours, had to do a train change at El Campello. Further on North Denia is worth a visit. I could go on and on.
