I booked two flights yesterday and I had a booking confirmation by email and the money has been taken from my bank account, but this morning I received an email in my spam folder saying it was from Thomson to telephone 02476282201 to be asked some security questions to finalise my booking by 8pm this evening or my booking will be cancelled. I have booked flights with Thomson before and never been asked this before so I am wondering if this email is genuine. I would telephone Thomson to check but I am at work at the moment.
Can anyone help me with this.
Thanks in advance

Just telephoned Thomson on the 08712314787 number and told them about the email and they said everything was OK with my booking and that the email was fake, luckily I did not telephone the 02476282201 number. perhaps they still need further info such as exactly who is travelling. Do both emails quote correct holiday information / ref numbers specific to you?
you need to phone Thomsons where you booked and check the number is kosher...
Or call a number that's known to be Thomson and ask them...

http://www.thomson.co.../contact-numbers.html

seem a little strange to me because thomson use non-geographical numbers for everything else but the number you've quoted is a Coventry number.
It is a genuine Thomson telephone number btw.
the number is given on the Thomson site for contacting for package holidays

The only holiday information was a booking reference number but it was a plain email with nothing showing it was from Thomson, just saying it was from The Thomson Validation Team although the email came from a [email protected]. I have looked on the Thomson website and the only numbers I can find are 0871 and 0844 numbers not ones beginning with 02476.
I just phoned that number and asked who it was and the girl said Financial Control Thomson, so it could be genuine.

So the girl who answered when I phoned was part of the scam!!!!
Something seems odd here.
I find it hard to believe -or very worrying- that a 'fake' email would contain your correct booking number. How would anyone have got hold of your details? If Thomson really felt it was fake they should be worried about how the fraudsters got your correct booking ref.
If it contained your name then it's even more worrying.
It is strange because if you google the number it comes up as a genuine Thomson number, bit of a worry.
Despite what Thompon have said, I think it may have been a genuine email, although it may have been sent in error in this case
if you Google 02476282201+thomson, the only link that comes up is this page. Where are other people finding it?
Duh! I googled the fake number!
Double duh - I mean I googled the real number!
that is the 'fake' number, the one in the OP. It's not coming up as a Thomson number when I look for it.
oh, ah, just seen your second post, sherrardk!
"So the girl who answered when I phoned was part of the scam!!!!"

WOW!!!

Now who'd have thought that if it is a scam and it's a "fake" number that the person answering the phone would be part of the scam!!
I would be very surprised if the email is a fake. If you look at Thomson`s website, their pre-travel services dept is in Coventry and the number you have given is a Coventry number. Airline IT security is very tight and it`s extremely unlikely someone would have got hold of your booking reference.

I gave Thomson the 02476 number and they said it had nothing to do with them, even though it is a Coventry number.
Sherrardk did you google the 02476 number as I also googled it but could find nothing to link it to Thomson.
