My passport expires in Sept 2012. I want to book to go to Germany in May/June for 7 days. If I apply for a new passport now, what number do I use to book the tickets on line, because when I travel it will be a different number?

Since when do you have to quote the passport number to book tickets?
Not sure, but do you need to update it early? I know some countries require you to have around 6 months left but I'm not sure that applies to Germany. Could you wait until you get back?
Sometimes Ryanair ask for your passport number when you check-in online.
Princess Sue, if I were you I would just leave it until you get back....less hassle!
Germany is in the EU assuming you are an EU citizen you can travel even if your passport expires the next day. Do the holiday then get the new passport when you get back. In theory you do not even need a passport for travel within the EU but as we do not have identity cards in UK we have to carry passports.
You don`t need to apply for a new passport now. If you want to though and the airline needs your passport details to make a booking, just use the passport number you have at the time of booking. When you get the new passport, you will be able to change it under "manage booking". If the number is only needed for APIS though, you should be able to put it in at a later date.
